CCARC supporters weren't quite sure what to expect when we announced we would be holding our annual meeting and spring event on the same night--and we were breaking our 12-year tradition of hosting a fashion show.
CCARC's spring event turned out to be so much more than a fundraiser.
Much like a kaleidoscope...all of the pieces came together into an exquisite design.
It was an evening colored by powerful, touching moments which resulted in the 200 people who attended gaining a deeper, heartfelt perspective of the beauty of people with intellectual disabilities.
Special thanks to our Board of Directors for embracing the vision and the Something Beautiful Planning Committee for seeing it through to completion. Committee members included:
Co-Chairs Patty Strazzulla and Melissa Gagne;
Lillian Agostini; Rosemary Agostinucci; Harry Sitilides;
Pastor Thomas A. Mills, Jr.; Christine Skeggs; Maggie Guilmartin;
Joan Mercier; Teresa Szafranski and Greg Ranaldi.
Here's how the night unfolded...
With Ben Goldman from Fox-61 as our emcee we were off to a great start!
Our own CCARC Singers, accompanied by choir members from Grace Church,
opened the night with Amazing Grace and He's Got The Whole World in His Hands.
From that point forward there was barely a dry eye in the place.
We considered ourselves blessed to have singer/songwriter/musician Michael Kelly Blanchard perform Danny's Downs --a song he originally wrote and recorded some years ago.
He captured everyone's hearts with the poignant story of a baby born with Down's Syndrome.
Later in the evening he sang his song "Daniel Downs" which he likes to say tells "the rest of the story."
A fabulous dinner was served by Teresa's Catering and an exciting live auction and fabulous new raffle made the event great fun!
Retiring Board members Jean Plocharczyk, Harry Sitilides and Alicia Rostkowski were recognized for their service. Followed by a special presentation of the Something Beautiful Award to our friends at Aetna in gratitude for their many kindnesses to CCARC.
The night ended with a video produced by our dear friend Maggie (Slysz) Guilmartin, formerly of Fox-61. It was a perfect ending to a very memorable evening.
What people are saying...
"...it was an incredible event. A perfect way to celebrate the beauty
in all of CCARC’s clients and employees. From the moment the singers started singing, my eyes welled up with tears. The happiness flowed from their voices and showed on their faces.
The night was magical!
"Thursday night was indeed special and probably one of the
most poignant special events I have attended. "
"Just a quick note to congratulate you once again for putting together
another very successful night for CCARC. No-one knew quite what to expect seeing we were not having a Fashion Show but all my friends who came last night were very impressed and two of them made it a point to tell me that they liked it better than the Fashion Show!"
"I thought last night was just BEAUTIFUL! "
"It was a very emotional night for many. 'The best of all the affairs!'"
"What an amazing evening! This came together so perfectly! So much to be proud of. Love the raffle tickets! Fun!!"
"Everything was wonderful! People, details, food, singers, music…"
"You had some of the men with tears falling from their eyes."
All to Benefit the Wonderful People supported by CCARC!
With much gratitude to our 30 generous sponsors
and multiple donors we were able to meet our goal!
